Weekly Update: December 31, 2015

Oh sing to the LORD a new song,
for he has done marvelous things!
His right hand and his holy arm
        have worked salvation for him.
    (Psalm 98:1 ESV)

Dear Family,

As we prepare to enter a new year, let's give thanks to God for his love and faithfulness to his covenant people. His grace has been evident in our lives, our homes, our community, and our congregation. Even in the times of hardship, suffering, and loss, He is there. His love never fails.

The Winter/Spring ministry season is about to kick off. Paul will begin a new preaching series on the doctrine of the Holy Spirit this Sunday with a message on Isaiah 63:7-14 entitled "Creator Spiritus."

Our Winter Classes will begin on January 10 at 9:30 and run for 8 weeks:

  • Old Testament Overview: This overview of the Old Testament will give you the "big picture" of the storyline of Scripture before the time of Christ. The goal will be to provide a practical foundation for personal study, ministry, and ongoing growth in biblical studies and theology. (Keith Snow)

  • The Meaning of Marriage: In this video-based Bible study, Timothy Keller, along with his wife Kathy, draws a profound portrait of marriage from the pages of Scripture that neither idealizes nor rejects the institution of marriage but points us back to the relationship between God and man. (Rob & Katherine Hooper)

  • Christianity Explored: This course will help you know and love Jesus better by looking at who he is, why he came, and what it means to follow him, as presented in the Gospel of Mark. (NOTE: This class is designed to present the gospel message, and therefore also works well as Evangelism Training to refresh you on how to share your faith with others.)  (Larry Martin)

We will also be offering Christianity Explored as an evangelistic outreach on Tuesday evenings at 7:00pm beginning February 2. If we truly want to be a church that sees lost people come to know Christ, we need to take personal ownership by getting engaged in these kinds of outreach efforts. Put this event on your calendar and bring a friend, neighbor, or coworker. You can RSVP and share the event on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/events/1685112585068530/.

The Women's Ministry will begin a new study on January 12 at 9:30am and 7:00 pm called Gospel Identity...Discovering Who You Really Are. So much of our lives are spent living out of other identities, but God says, "You're mine!" This study will explore the transforming power of the gospel and the difference it can make in our lives.

The Men's Ministry will begin a new study in February called Manhood Restored: How the Gospel Makes Men Whole. Manhood will always be in crisis until Jesus returns. But in Christ, men can be restored with ever increasing glory into the undefiled image of God. Two meeting options: Wednesdays 7:00-8:00pm starting Feb 3, and Thursdays 6:30-7:30am starting Feb 4 (6 weeks).

If you're not yet in a Life Group, please don't hesitate to get connected. We even have a couple of new groups launching in the New Year. Check the website for the latest info: http://crosscreek.us/life-groups

And of course, all of our other ministries will continue in the New Year as well: MOPS, Seniors, Youth, Children, and more. Praise God for his ongoing work of gospel transformation in and through our church!

Grace and peace,
