Oh come, let us sing to the Lord;
let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation!
Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving;
let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise!
For the Lord is a great God,
and a great King above all gods.
In his hand are the depths of the earth;
the heights of the mountains are his also.
The sea is his, for he made it,
and his hands formed the dry land. - Psalm 95:1-5 ESV
Throughout the pages of Scripture we find reminders to be thankful, to express or show thanks, and often words like "always" and "unceasing" are used to describe the frequency of this posture. Even our Lord, before he broke bread in the Upper Room, stopped and gave thanks.
My hope and prayer is that this season of Thanksgiving would be truly that - sincere reflection upon the amazing, unmerited grace that God has poured out on all of His people. That even in the midst of trials, we would see God's control, authority and presence, resting in His love. That, by thoughtful reflection on these things, our prayers to the Lord would sound more like a love letter than a laundry list. Through it all, may we grow ever closer to Jesus Christ, giving thanks for the Gospel in His name.
So, on behalf of my family to yours, Happy Thanksgiving.
