Nominate An Officer

Officer Nomination and Resources

The process of nominating, training, and ordaining church officers is instructed in Holy Scripture and crucial for the health of our church. First and foremost, then, we ask you to pray for our church and its future officers!

Below, you will first find important information about what an elder/deacon is and what qualifies a man for the calling. Then you will find a form you can complete to nominate someone. And finally, there is an outline of the process.

A few rules:
1) Please talk to the man you are nominating before submitting his name.
2) You must be a Cross Creek member to nominate someone.
3) A nomination does not guarantee a nominee will become an officer.

Again, please pray for the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and please do not hesitate to contact any member of the Session if you have any questions.

Nomination Form

Process Outline

Step One: Nomination
During the next month, the session will receive nominations. These can be made using the nomination forms at the worship service or by submitting the online form above. Only Cross Creek members in good standing may nominate someone, so nominations cannot be anonymous. Please let the person know you are putting their name forward and that nominations are an important part of helping individuals determine a calling.

Step Two: Vetting and Invitation
Once nominations are received, the session will review the names submitted. They will then approach all qualified candidates and ask them to prayerfully consider undergoing officer training.

Step Three: Training and Examination
This training is a time of spiritual growth, brotherly bonding, and personal challenge. Nominees will undergo a time of training that involves teaching in the Word, discussion of Cross Creek’s mission and values, and the details of what it looks like to serve as an officer of the church. Nominees will also be given the chance to try different aspects of ministry. At the end of the training, all who wish to proceed will be interviewed and examined by the session in what they have learned.

Step Four: Election and Ordination
Those whom the session determines are fit for office will be presented to the congregation for election at a congregational meeting. Those elected to office by the church will be ordained and installed at a special church service. Praise God!
